The new 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Redeye Hellcats have begun to find their way to dealerships across the country. So, what's the big diffeyrence between the Redeye Hellcat versus its predecessors? The answer is... a lot! When Dodge unleashed the extremely limited-edition (3,300 Demons produced) 840 HP, 10-second 2018 Dodge Demon, all bets were off at that point. The track-designed, street legal, wheelie making Demon broke all records for a factory-built vehicle. The demon was officially declared the fastest factory produced car ever built, along with other accolades such as the only factory vehicle to be able to lift the front tires completely off the ground off the line, having a factory installed transmission brake, as well as utilizing the factory air-conditioning system to tap into the intercooler system to keep the coolant even colder, producing more HP!
I thought this post was about the Hellcat Redeye, so why mention the Demon? Well, because the Demon is basically the Hellcat Redeye's menacing big brother... and brothers share the same DNA. The Demon was built as a street legal drag racing vehicle. There were many challenges people noticed in the Demon when it came to driving the fastest production built vehicle off of the drag strip. When the designers at the FCA were building the suspension for the Demon, their focus was going from point A to point B in a straight line. Its handling isn't what most people who are looking to drive a near 1,000 horsepower vehicle on the roadways and in traffic prefer.
That's where the Redeye comes in. The Dodge Challenger Redeye takes everything that everyone loves about the Demon, and puts it back into a Challenger that is more road friendly. Built with a difference suspension setup to handle the streets better, the Dodge Challenger Redeye also has a snarling nostril-like hood that is a clear defining difference between the Demon and the Redeye. This difference makes quite a difference in the vehicle as it contributes significantly to the airflow the engine receives, dampening down the horsepower from 840HP down to 797HP. By doing this, it keeps all 4-wheels on the ground. So there will be no wheelie-making with a factory stock Dodge Challenger Red-eye. The demon-possessed Redeye also received an upgraded supercharger from it's bigger more sinister sibling, giving the Red-eye a 2.7L supercharger, versus the smaller 2.4L found on the original hellcat. This change increases the boost pressure from 11.6 to 14.5 PSI. Lastly, the Redeye is only being produced with an 8-speed automatic transmission, unlike the Hellcat that was produced with an available 6-speed manual transmission. For 2019, the base Challenger SRT Hellcat got a slight boost from 707 HP to 717 HP and will also still come available with both the 8-speed automatic transmission and 6-speed manual.
In short, unlike the Dodge Demon being a limited-edition, one year only car, the 2019 Dodge Challenger Redeye is readily available to be built for whoever wants to buy on. You won't be getting a "Hell crate" with drag radials or a factory installed trans brake, but you will be getting a demonic challenger that realizes that roads have turns and corners while still holding many of the powerful asphalt melting capabilities of the Dodge Demon. So if you were unable to get your hands on a Demon, and were looking to drive through your local streets then you need to check out the new 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye!
