Jeep has certainly been busy lately! Earlier this year, they unleashed the brand new 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Becoming the first in the industry to offer a midsize pickup that not only has removable doors and a removable roof, but able to also handle the workload of 1/2 ton pickups when properly equipped! Jeep then made headlines shortly after, announcing their plan to integrate hybrid technology into the majority of vehicles in their lineup including the Wrangler, Renegade, Compass, and Cherokee! Now, they have announced the return of an iconic family vehicle that many believe set the stage for today's SUV market, the Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer!
So what should we expect from the Jeep Wagoneer set to make it's debut back into the SUV market in 2021? Sharing many features of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and all-new Ram 1500 pickup, the Wagoneers will combine size and luxury! Both vehicles are slated to have 3-row seating. The Jeep Wagoneer is going to be the smaller of the two. This vehicle will compete with the likes of the Cadillac Escalade, Ford Explorer, and Lincoln Navigator. Likewise, the Grand Wagoneer will be taking on the bigger guys like the Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon Denali, the Cadillac Escalade ESV, and the Lincoln Navigator L.
Packing in the most technology seen today, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer while fully loaded with leather, heated and ventilated seats, front and rear cross path detection with stop technology, park assist, advanced safety group, lane change assist, front collision warning, 360 degree camera, and more will likely see the price of the new Jeeps surpassing the MSRP of the Jeep Trackhawks by breaking the $100,000 threshold! Although not confirmed, I personally suspect we will see the 12" UConnect 4C infotainment system that debuted in the 2019 Ram 1500 find it's way into this vehicle. Likewise, I also feel it is extremely likely we will also see the panoramic moonroof and additional 3rd row roof window seen on the Chrysler Pacifica),
Set to begin production from the current Ram truck plant in Warren, Michigan, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will share many features from the Ram undercarriage including the chassis and an option for an air suspension system. Powering the new Wagoneers will be the current Mopar workhorses, the 3.6L Pentastar V6 for entry-level models, and the 5.7L V8 and 6.4L V8 Hemi motors for the higher models. It is already being rumored that there may even be an SRT Hellcat powered option. Only time will tell!
Looking at the interior, like the 2019 Ram Laramie Longhorn, I suspect FCA won't spare any expense to provide the utmost luxury in the pair of Wagoneers! Whether or not FCA will decide to add some nostalgia by including the iconic Wagoneer wooden side paneling, I do however, certainly expect to see wooden accents on the interor. (Again, look at the interior of the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn, just remove the country flavor).
It will certainly be interesting to see how things come together for these new Jeeps. I anticipate that it will instantly sell like crazy, and will take a huge chunk of the market away from GM's GMC and Chevrolet full-size SUV market.
